The 'L' shaped SATA connector was originally designed for only one insertion. It was meant to be inserted once and left in place. To overcome this design flaw, the eSATA socket/plug was designed to be used many times. The 'e' in eSATA stands for external. This makes it ideal for connecting external SATA backup devices.
